How to Land Your First Client in the Next 30 Days

Only using social media

Heyo,

Welcome back to another edition of the Digital Brand Builders newsletter, a newsletter teaching you one actionable lesson you can use each week to build and grow your own brand online.

I want to teach from my own experience, so Iā€™ll be sharing everything Iā€™ve learned about starting and growing my personal brand and online business over the past several months in the hopes that it helps you do the same.

And by the end of each newsletter, Iā€™ll leave you with a few action steps you can take to get one step closer to building your own digital brand this week.

Because I believe the future belongs to the digital brand builders!

Sound like a plan?

Alrighty, letā€™s dive right into this weekā€™s lesson!

Hereā€™s what weā€™ll be covering this week:

How to land your first client from social media in the next 30 days.

This Weekā€™s Blueprint šŸ—ŗ

Last week, we covered how to craft your nearly perfect offer so you can start attracting your ideal clients to your product or service (if you missed that issue, click here to read it).

Now letā€™s assume for argumentā€™s sake, youā€™ve gone through and created your offer.

So congrats, give yourself a round of applause! It can be tough to create an irresistible offer that your audience actually wants.

But I hate to break it to youā€¦ that was the easy part (sorry, I know šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø).

The hard part? Actually getting eyeballs on your offer and getting people interested in what youā€™re selling.

Thatā€™s why it took me three months to sign my first client.

But the reality is, it could have taken me three weeks if I followed the right strategy.

Luckily, thatā€™s the exact strategy Iā€™ll be sharing with you today so you can sign your first client ASAP.

So without further ado, here are 5 steps you can take to attract your ideal audience and sign your first client in the next 30 daysā€¦ only using social media ā†“

1. Optimize Your Profile šŸ“²

There are three things you need if you want to optimize your social media profile to attract clients:

  1. An aesthetic profile picture

  2. A profile that explains exactly what you do

  3. A pinned or highlighted resource that shares insane value

Look, it doesnā€™t matter which social media platform you choose to use. If you get this step right, you can start attracting leads to your profile in the next 24 hours.

Letā€™s look at my Twitter profile as an example:

Iā€™ve got a clear and friendly-looking photo of me with a background color that stands out (not necessary, but itā€™s helpful).

And in my bio, I make it incredibly clear what I do, who I help, and what results Iā€™ve gotten in the past.

If you donā€™t know what to say in your bio, follow this template:

I help [NICHE] achieve [RESULTS YOU GET THEM] in [TIMEFRAME].

Then you can add the type of content you share and what your audience can expect when they follow you.

Pretty simple so far, huh? No need to overcomplicate it.

The next step is pinning a piece of content to your profile that attracts and targets your exact client.

I created a sales magnet (learn more about that here) and pinned it so itā€™s the first thing people see when they visit my profile.

Clear bio? āœ…
Aesthetic profile picture? āœ…
Valuable pinned content? āœ…

Now that weā€™ve got our profile optimized to attract our ideal clients, letā€™s move onto the next stepā€¦

2. Create Engaging Content āœšŸ¼

Weā€™ve covered this in a past issue, but if you want to grow your following and draw attention to your profile, Iā€™d encourage you to create three different types of content:

  • Growth

  • Authority

  • Personality

I wonā€™t get too into this since you can read more about each of those hereā€¦

But just know that if you want to build a personal brand and attract your ideal clients to your profile, you gotta have a mix of these three types of content.

And if you really want to get eyeballs on your brand, Iā€™d recommend posting one of each type of content every day (depending on which social media platform you choose to use).

I personally use Notion to organize my content schedule and create a library of different content ideas I can look back at and useā€¦

But thatā€™s a topic for another day ;)

3. Engage Like a Bro šŸ¤

Look, itā€™s called social media for a reason.

Because itā€™s meant to be a platform where you can network with one another, start interesting conversations, and yesā€¦ even make friends.

So what do I mean by ā€œengage like a bro?ā€

The thing is, itā€™s not just enough to post valuable content. Because if youā€™re just starting out and donā€™t have a large audience, nobodyā€™s going to see your posts in the beginning.

Which is why if you want to get eyeballs on your profile and eventually turn that attention into clients, you have to meet people where theyā€™re at:

Under the posts of bigger accounts.

Essentially, youā€™ll be borrowing the audience of these bigger accounts to build your own.

Hereā€™s what Iā€™d recommend you do:

Make a list of 50 - 100 accounts in your niche who have the audience youā€™d like to have.

For example, my list includes e-commerce brands, email marketers, and other agencies/freelancers who work with ecom brands.

Now I just go to the most recent posts of these accounts and add valuable comments under their content.

But donā€™t just rephrase what they said. Noā€¦ you want to be adding to the conversation.

  • Share your perspective

  • Share your personal experience

  • Add a funny comment or ask a question

ā€œEngage like a broā€ simply means sounding like a genuine human being thatā€™s having a conversation with their friend.

I try to do this for about 30 minutes each day.

And trust me when I say this is enough to grow your own audience while starting valuable conversations with like-minded people.

4. DM Like a Pro šŸ’¬

Hopefully by this point youā€™re growing your audience and getting noticed by others.

But the real moneyā€™s made behind the scenes in the DMā€™s.

Now, there are two ways to go about this:

  • Cold outreach

  • Warm outreach

Cold outreach means youā€™re reaching out to people who donā€™t already know you or that youā€™ve never interacted with.

Itā€™s quicker but a bit less effective.

On the other hand, warm outreach is when the person youā€™re reaching out to already knows you (at least a little bit).

To get to this point, start engaging with their content every day for a few days before reaching out. It takes a bit longer but is typically much more effective.

Now, what exactly should you say in your messages?

If you donā€™t have any previous experienceā€¦ just be honest. Offer to work for free or for a much cheaper price in exchange for a testimonial.

Itā€™s worth it to get people to pay attention to you.

Hereā€™s the DM that led to working with my first client ā†“

Now, if you do have previous results ā€“ or once you get them ā€“ simply reach out and share those results and ask if theyā€™d be interested in getting similar results for themselves.

Hereā€™s a message I recently sent ā†“

5. Show Up Everyday šŸ“…

Okay, by this point you should be starting conversations each day and (hopefully) getting a decent amount of traffic to your profile.

But the most important step of all?

Show up everyday and donā€™t give up!

Yes, it can be discouraging at first when nobodyā€™s responding to your messages every day.

Yes, it can be discouraging at first when you spend hours writing content, only to get two likes.

But please please please stick with it. Because the truth is, itā€™s all a numbers game.

The more content you publish and the more you engage with others, the more likely people are to see your profile and start following you.

The more DMā€™s you send, the more likely you are to get a reply, start a conversation, and land your first client.

Social mediaā€™s a little like the lottery. The only difference?

With social media, you get unlimited chances to hit the jackpot and change your life.

Nothing can happen for months. And then everything happens all at once.

Stay consistent, show up everyday, and I promise you, your life will changeā€¦ itā€™s only a matter of time.

This Weekā€™s Action Steps šŸ¾

Anddddddā€¦ there you have it!

  1. Optimize your profile

  2. Create 5 - 10 pieces of engaging content

  3. Start engaging with other accounts in your niche

  4. Send 3 DMā€™s each day and simply focus on starting conversations

Thatā€™s it for this week.
