The Secret to Standing Out As a Brand

That nobody else can do but you

Hey!

I know, I know. It’s been awhile since you’ve seen my name pop up in your inbox. You missed me, didn’t you? ;)

Look, I could give you this whole reason as to why it’s been over two months since I sent my last email to you.

But the truth is… I’ve just been distracted and a bit overwhelmed recently. I’ve been putting it off all summer, even when every Saturday morning comes around and I think to myself, ā€œI really should write my newsletter, shouldn’t I?ā€

Well enough of that. Here I am, and you already know I’m going to be dropping some šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„ in this one since it’s been so long (you deserve it, after all).

Here’s what you’ll learn in this issue:

  • The secret to standing out as a brand

  • Why it works so well

  • How to use it

So let’s dive into this issue, shall we?

🤫 The Secret to Standing Out as a Brand

Look, it can be hard to stand out in the world of business.

Almost every market is… well, saturated.

Just think of the number of clothing brands, restaurants, consumer goods manufacturers, and service-based businesses out there.

It’s a tonnnnn.

With so many similar businesses out there, you may be wondering how anyone decides which brand to buy from.

Well, I don’t know about you but one thing that’s a deciding factor for me is…

Personality.

Yep, you read that right. Just as each person has a different personality, so too should each brand.

Think back to the beginning of this email. I started off by asking and answering my own questions, using emojis and parentheses, and even incorporating a ;) face.

Love it or hate it, that’s just me. It’s who I am as a person. And you better believe I’m going to leverage the s@%$ out of it as a creator, too.

Now, I’ll admit. It’s a bit easier as a solo-creator than it is as a huge corporation.

But that doesn’t mean any business can’t inject a bit of personality and character into their marketing efforts!

It can be through…

  • Emails

  • Podcasts

  • Blog articles

  • Website copy

  • Advertisements

  • Social media posts

You get the idea.

Whether you realize it or not, a brand’s personality is one of the deciding factors when it comes to building trust and buying their products.

Because who are you more likely to buy from? A product description that sounds like it was written by a robot or one that sounds like it was written by an actual human being?

I don’t know about you, but I’d pick the latter every single time.

šŸ¤” Why It Works So Well

There are two main reasons why a brand's personality is important. It:

  1. Attracts more people

  2. Detracts more people

Huh? How does that even work?

Let me explain.

Like I said earlier, some people may love the way I write while others may hate it.

And guess what? That’s okay! In fact, it’s what we’re aiming for here when it comes to adding personality to your brand (other than the fact that it’s just plain ole fun to write).

For the people who love your brand personality, it will lead to increased trust, better engagement, and more loyal customers who rave about your brand.

Which is exactly why you’re in business, right?

But for the people who hate your brand personality, it will detract them from becoming customers.

Which isn’t anything to worry about, so relaxxxxx. Why?

Because you can’t sell to everyone. As hard as it is to accept, not everyone will like you or what you do. That’s just how it is.

So by simply being yourself and letting your personality shine through in your brand, you:

  1. Eliminate people who weren’t a good fit

  2. Attract more people who will buy from you and tell their friends how great you are

Seems like a win-win in my book!

šŸ“ How to Use It

Honestly, this one is pretty simple and straightforward. All you really have to do is…

Be yourself.

Yeah, yeah, I know it sounds clichƩ. But it really is the best way to stand out as a brand, especially in a saturated market.

Today, being yourself is more important than ever. It’s your competitive advantage in the 21st century.

Think about it. There are thousands of clothing brands out there. But no one brand sells the same exact clothes in the same exact way to the same exact people.

There are tons and tons of YouTube channels out there. But no one channel shares the same exact story in the same exact way to the same exact people.

Everyone is a writer. But no one writer shares the same exact message in the same exact way to the same exact people.

Are you starting to get the point and see how it works? I sure hope so.

So whether you’re a freelancer, clothing brand, or anything else in between, just be yourself and don’t be afraid to share a bit of your personality in everything you do.

Marketing efforts, emails like these, video ads… anything and everything!

Just remember, not everyone will like it. But the ones who do will become loyal customers for life.

There’s only one of you out there. Might as well use it to your advantage ;)

Your pal,

Connor
