Selling Your Offer as a Story
How and why
Hey there,
I donāt know about where you are, but over here in Seattle itās as close to spring weather as you can get.
Sunny. High 60ās. Not a care in the world.
Man, I canāt wait for warmer weather like this all the time.
Anyways, welcome back to another edition of the Digital Brand Builders newsletter, a newsletter teaching you one actionable lesson you can use each week to build, scale, and monetize your personal brand in less than five minutes.
And by the end of every edition, Iāll leave you with a few action steps you can follow so you can grow and monetize your own digital brand this upcoming week.
Sound like a plan?
Alrighty, letās dive right into this one!
Hereās what weāll be covering this week:
How to sell your offer as a story.
This Weekās Blueprint šŗ
Hereās the cold, hard truth:
No matter who you are or how good you think your offer isā¦
Thereās going to be people with the same exact offer as you. And thereās going to be people with offers that are 10x better than yours.
So how in the world are you going to get people to buy into yours if there are so many others your clients could choose from?
Well, by sharing your storyā¦ thatās how!
Because people donāt buy into your product or service. They buy into you and your story.
So if you want to completely eliminate the competition and get your ideal customers to know, like, and trust youā¦
Sharing your story will do exactly that.
Hereās the simple 3-step process you can follow to craft your own offer story thatās so enticing, clients will see you as the only option to help solve their problem:
Step 1 ā¢ Identify Your ICP
First things firstā¦ before we can market and sell our offer to anyone, we first have to understand exactly who weāre selling to.
For example, if youāre a ghostwriter, you might sell your services to founders or CEOās who donāt have time to grow their own brand.
But truth is, thatās too broad. We want to get as specific as possible when weāre determining who our ideal client profile (ICP) is.
So in order to do that, here are a few questions to ask yourself:
How old are they?
Whatās their name?
What do they value?
Who else do they follow?
Whatās their greatest fear?
Whatās their dream outcome?
Whatās their biggest obstacle?
What do you notice about these questions?
Theyāre incredibly specific, right? And thereās a reason for that.
The more detailed you make your ICP, the more youāll understand them. And the more you understand them, the easier itāll be to sell to them.
So trust me when I sayā¦ this is the most important step when it comes to building your offer and crafting your offer story.
Do not skip this step!
Step 2 ā¢ Determine All Your ICPās Problems
Okay, now that weāve identified who our ICP is and what keeps them up at night, itās time to turn these into selling points for our offer.
Hereās how we do that:
List out each of the problems theyāre facing
List out the solution to each problem
List out the benefit of each solution
Just look at a few of mine as an exampleā¦
Once I identified who my ICP was in the first step, I listed out all the problems they were facing and came up with solutions and benefits to those problems.
And thatās 98% of how you create a killer offer, my friend.
Step 3 ā¢ Write Your Offer Story
Now that weāre done with the hard part (really, the first two steps were the hardest), itās time to put everything together and actually write your story.
Because remember, your story is the thing that makes your ICP believe youāre the only person who can lead them to their desired outcome. Who can lead them to the promised land.
Here are a few things to include in your story:
The entire journey
How you started your brand
Why youāre in business to start with
All the wins and losses along the way
The pivots and the āfork in the roadā moments
Write it like a narrative. Make it entertaining. Make it exciting. Make itā¦ you.
Your story is the thing that will get your ICP to know, like, and trust you.
Which is crucial when it comes to selling your offer to them.
