Selling Your Offer as a Story

How and why

Hey there,

I donā€™t know about where you are, but over here in Seattle itā€™s as close to spring weather as you can get.

Sunny. High 60ā€™s. Not a care in the world.

Man, I canā€™t wait for warmer weather like this all the time.

Anyways, welcome back to another edition of the Digital Brand Builders newsletter, a newsletter teaching you one actionable lesson you can use each week to build, scale, and monetize your personal brand in less than five minutes.

And by the end of every edition, Iā€™ll leave you with a few action steps you can follow so you can grow and monetize your own digital brand this upcoming week.

Sound like a plan?

Alrighty, letā€™s dive right into this one!

Hereā€™s what weā€™ll be covering this week:

How to sell your offer as a story.

This Weekā€™s Blueprint šŸ—ŗ

Hereā€™s the cold, hard truth:

No matter who you are or how good you think your offer isā€¦

Thereā€™s going to be people with the same exact offer as you. And thereā€™s going to be people with offers that are 10x better than yours.

So how in the world are you going to get people to buy into yours if there are so many others your clients could choose from?

Well, by sharing your storyā€¦ thatā€™s how!

Because people donā€™t buy into your product or service. They buy into you and your story.

So if you want to completely eliminate the competition and get your ideal customers to know, like, and trust youā€¦

Sharing your story will do exactly that.

Hereā€™s the simple 3-step process you can follow to craft your own offer story thatā€™s so enticing, clients will see you as the only option to help solve their problem:

Step 1 ā€¢ Identify Your ICP

First things firstā€¦ before we can market and sell our offer to anyone, we first have to understand exactly who weā€™re selling to.

For example, if youā€™re a ghostwriter, you might sell your services to founders or CEOā€™s who donā€™t have time to grow their own brand.

But truth is, thatā€™s too broad. We want to get as specific as possible when weā€™re determining who our ideal client profile (ICP) is.

So in order to do that, here are a few questions to ask yourself:

  • How old are they?

  • Whatā€™s their name?

  • What do they value?

  • Who else do they follow?

  • Whatā€™s their greatest fear?

  • Whatā€™s their dream outcome?

  • Whatā€™s their biggest obstacle?

What do you notice about these questions?

Theyā€™re incredibly specific, right? And thereā€™s a reason for that.

The more detailed you make your ICP, the more youā€™ll understand them. And the more you understand them, the easier itā€™ll be to sell to them.

So trust me when I sayā€¦ this is the most important step when it comes to building your offer and crafting your offer story.

Do not skip this step!

Step 2 ā€¢ Determine All Your ICPā€™s Problems

Okay, now that weā€™ve identified who our ICP is and what keeps them up at night, itā€™s time to turn these into selling points for our offer.

Hereā€™s how we do that:

  • List out each of the problems theyā€™re facing

  • List out the solution to each problem

  • List out the benefit of each solution

Just look at a few of mine as an exampleā€¦

Once I identified who my ICP was in the first step, I listed out all the problems they were facing and came up with solutions and benefits to those problems.

And thatā€™s 98% of how you create a killer offer, my friend.

Step 3 ā€¢ Write Your Offer Story

Now that weā€™re done with the hard part (really, the first two steps were the hardest), itā€™s time to put everything together and actually write your story.

Because remember, your story is the thing that makes your ICP believe youā€™re the only person who can lead them to their desired outcome. Who can lead them to the promised land.

Here are a few things to include in your story:

  • The entire journey

  • How you started your brand

  • Why youā€™re in business to start with

  • All the wins and losses along the way

  • The pivots and the ā€œfork in the roadā€ moments

Write it like a narrative. Make it entertaining. Make it exciting. Make itā€¦ you.

Your story is the thing that will get your ICP to know, like, and trust you.

Which is crucial when it comes to selling your offer to them.
