How a Simple Email Can Make or Break Your Brand

So you better make it count šŸ˜¬

Hereā€™s the cold, hard truth:

You never get a second chance to make a good first impression.

So if you want to leave a lasting impression on your audience and turn them into loyal customers for lifeā€¦ you better well make it count!

And in my own humble opinion, you want to know the best way to do that?

A welcome email.

Yes, a single email (I know right, can you believe it?!).

And the reality is, that welcome email can quite literally make or break your brand.

Why?

Well, thatā€™s what youā€™re about to learn today!

Hereā€™s what youā€™ll learn today:

  • The welcome email that will make or break your brand

  • Why it works so well

  • How you can use it

Letā€™s dive right into this one, shall we?

The Welcome Email That Will Make or Break Your Brand šŸ“Ø

Alright, first things firstā€¦ it doesnā€™t matter if youā€™re an e-commerce brand, printing company, or solo creator.

An email list is the most valuable asset you own.

Hereā€™s why:

ā€¢ You own your email list
ā€¢ You can use it to (almost) print money on demand
ā€¢ You can use it to build deeper relationships with your audience

I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

Now, if you donā€™t already have an email listā€¦ what are you doing?! I recommend you create one immediately.

My friend Jay Yang recently started a fantastic newsletter on (get this) how to start and grow your own newsletter.

Yesā€¦ a newsletter on newsletters. Thatā€™s how important having your own email list is.

I recommend subscribing to it here to learn how to start your own (itā€™s free by the way).

Annnyyyywayyyyssssā€¦ enough rambling from me.

When someone subscribes to your email list, you have the chance to build a much deeper relationship with your readers and turn them from just a subscriber to a friend, customer, or client.

The reality is, your welcome email is one of the first interactions somebody will have with your brand.

And like I said earlier, you only get one chance to make a good first impression.

Are you starting to piece together what Iā€™m putting down?

Nail your welcome email and youā€™ll turn new subscribers (who probably didnā€™t know anything about your brand before) into lifelong fans.

But if you donā€™t nail your welcome email? Well, you may have just lost a potential fan and customer that youā€™ll never see again.

I wonā€™t get into the actual nuts and bolts of creating your welcome email (thatā€™s a lesson for another day).

But hereā€™s why absolutely nailing your welcome email works so well and why it can make or break your brand.

Why It Works So Well šŸ¤”

Your welcome email works for a few reasons. It gives you the opportunity to:

ā€¢ Show your personality
ā€¢ Build a relationship with your reader
ā€¢ Set expectations for whatā€™s to come
ā€¢ Thank your readers for joining your list

And by the time your reader gets to the end of your email, you want them to think two things:

  1. I love this person (or brandā€™s) personality and what they stand for

  2. I canā€™t wait to receive more emails from them

Thatā€™s literally it.

And thatā€™s why the most effective welcome emails work so well.

Because they make the reader feel something. They start to build a relationship with the reader in that one whole minute it takes to read the email.

If you can nail those two thingsā€¦ getting your readers to become a fan of your personality and making them excited to open your future emails?

Youā€™ll gain a loyal fan for life thatā€™ll open any email you send in the future.

And that, my friend, is a veryā€¦ very powerful thing.

So how can you use this to nail your welcome email and turn a reader from just a reader into a lifelong fan?

How to Use It šŸ“

Alright, if you want to make a good first impression and nail your welcome email, hereā€™s what I recommend:

ā€¢ Share a story
ā€¢ Share your personality

Why?

Because you want your reader to feel something, right?

You want them to become a fan of you and your brand after reading just a few words.

And as clichƩ as it sounds, being yourself and sharing your personality through an engaging story is the best way to do that.

But aside from that, hereā€™s a simple structure you can follow:

ā€¢ Start in the middle of the action with an engaging story
ā€¢ Transition to thank your reader for joining your list
ā€¢ Share a free resource as a thanks for joining
ā€¢ Set expectations for whatā€™s to come

If you can do that?

Well, youā€™ll be well on your way to creating a killer first impression and gaining a loyal fan, friend, or customer for life.

Anyways, thatā€™s all for this week. Iā€™ll drop a few of my favorites examples and resources below.
