Nobody Knows You Exist

So give them a reason to pay attention

Heyo,

Welcome back to another edition of the Digital Brand Builders newsletter, a newsletter teaching you one actionable lesson you can use each week to build and grow your own brand online.

I want to teach from my own experience, so Iā€™ll be sharing everything Iā€™ve learned about starting and growing my personal brand and online business over the past several months in the hopes that it helps you do the same.

And by the end of each newsletter, Iā€™ll leave you with a few action steps you can take to get one step closer to building your own digital brand this week.

Because I believe the future belongs to the digital brand builders!

Sound like a plan?

Alrighty, letā€™s dive right into this weekā€™s lesson!

Hereā€™s what weā€™ll be covering this week:

How to promote yourself to your audience.

This Weekā€™s Blueprint šŸ—ŗ

When it comes to creating content and building my online business, I like to live by one fundamental truth:

You could have the best content, product, or service in the world. But it wonā€™t mean a thing if nobody knows it exists.

Makes sense, right?

I mean, how can you expect to get new clients or customers if nobody even knows who you are?

You canā€™tā€¦ thatā€™s how.

So if you want to market yourself to the world and actually get people to pay attention to you and your brilliant ideasā€¦

You have to promote yourself. Constantly.

Here are 5 ways to promote yourself to your audience and go from zero to hero ā†“

1. Flex Your Results Everywhere šŸ’ŖšŸ¼

Alright, Iā€™m making a big assumption here. But just for argumentā€™s sake, letā€™s assume youā€™ve already got some killer results.

Maybe itā€™s results youā€™ve gotten for a client of yours, a win from your job, or simply a tiny victory youā€™ve gotten for yourself (it doesnā€™t really matter what it is).

Share that winā€¦ and I mean share it everywhere.

Share it on social media. Share it with your friends and family. Share it in that Discord community you never seem to look at but are still a part of for some reason (not just me, right?).

Truth is, if you want people to know about you and actually get them interested in what you doā€¦

You have to flex what you can do and flex the results youā€™re able to get.

The first step to actually promoting yourself and your offers is not being afraid to showcase your results, no matter how big or small they may be.

Nobody will know what you can do for them if you never actually show what youā€™ve done in the past.

Hereā€™s a recent example of me flexing my results (and promoting myself in the process):

2. Plug your Offers Everywhere, Too šŸ”Œ

Most people are afraid to plug their offers and promote themselves to their audience, even if theyā€™ve got a massive audience.

But letā€™s be honestā€¦

Only a small percentage of your audience will even see your content to begin with (because thatā€™s just how the algorithm works).

Out of that small percentage, an even smaller percentage will remember what you posted.

And as for that smaller percentage who do remember what you post?

Well, 99% of them wonā€™t even care.

Are you starting to see why you should be plugging and promoting your offers more often?

Iā€™ve even heard people with audiences of hundreds of thousands who say some people still ask them what they even offer.

So hereā€™s the thingā€¦ you should be plugging your offers everywhere you can and as often as you can.

  • Links in bio

  • As standalone content

  • At the bottom of your content

As for me, I promote my newsletter and lead magnets at the bottom of my content and in my social media profiles.

That way, whenever someone sees a post or visits my profile, one of the first things they see is what I do and what Iā€™m able to offer them.

The reality is this: Most of the time, the solution youā€™re looking for is simply to promote your offers more often.

Hereā€™s an example of a Twitter thread I wrote that promotes my services and flexes my results (this is what I call power offer content) ā†“

3. Reach Out to Your Ideal Clients šŸ“²

If you want the quickest and (arguably) most effective method to promoting your offer to more people, the best thing you can do is reach out to them!

Makes sense, right? Just because you post valuable content and have a killer offer doesnā€™t mean the right people are going to see it.

So hereā€™s what Iā€™d recommend you do:

  • Create a piece of content about your ideal client or customer

  • Reach out to them and share it

Yes, it can be time-consuming. But yes, it can be incredibly effective.

How can you do it for yourself?

Create a list of five to ten people or brands youā€™d like to work with. These are going to be your ideal/dream clients.

Then, identify a problem you can help them solve.

Hereā€™s an example of a piece of content I created for the clothing brand Open Planes, where I give them suggestions on how to increase their revenue:

After I created the above piece, I found their owner and sent it to them with a message along the lines of:

ā€œHey, I created a breakdown of how you can increase your revenue in the next 90 days. Thought it might be helpful. Let me know if you want help setting this system up for yourself.ā€

I didnā€™t expect anything in return. And unfortunately, I didnā€™t get anything in return from this one.

But following a content-outreach system like this does two things:

  1. Shows the brand how you can help

  2. Shows other people what you can do

Now, will you always get new clients (or even a response) from this?

No, definitely not.

But what you will get is eyeballs on your offer, the ability to showcase your expertise, and the chance to start working with your ideal clients.

I donā€™t know about you, but thatā€™s a win-win if Iā€™ve ever seen one šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

4. Meet People Where Theyā€™re At šŸ¤

Look, people already have questions and are starting conversations about topics you can help with.

All it takes is to find them and join in on the conversation!

So where exactly can you find these discussions?

  • Quora

  • Reddit

  • Facebook groups

You can simply look for questions people have asked about your area of expertise, share your advice and recommendations in the form of a post, and ask if they have any other questions or need any other help.

This is exactly how one of the biggest ghostwriters on the internet, Nicolas Cole, became a household ā€˜world-wide-webā€™ name as a writer.

If you keep it up for long enough, meeting people where theyā€™re at and joining in on conversations will get you recognized for your expertise.

Then when itā€™s time for someone to invest in a solution to their problem, guess who will be the first person they think of?

Rightā€¦ you!

5. Create for the Past Version of Yourself šŸ‘¶šŸ¼

Look, a lot of people think they have to be an expert to share their knowledge about a specific subject.

But that couldnā€™t be further from the truth.

Because the reality is, thereā€™s always going to be someone whoā€™s eager to learn about the things you know.

And those things you know?

A lot of the time, they might seem easy or obvious to youā€¦ but theyā€™ll absolutely blow someone elseā€™s mind!

Think back on everything youā€™ve learned over the past two years.

Itā€™s probably a ton of stuff, right?

Right, but even just two years ago you didnā€™t know any of those things. You might not have even known they existed.

Whether itā€™s all the things you learned in school, lessons learned from your job, building that business, or even all those countless books you read over the yearsā€¦

The past version of you would be amazed at all the things you know now.

And the best part?

Thereā€™s always going to be a ā€œpast version of yourselfā€ that you can teach.

So create for that past version of you ā€“ the person two steps behind you whoā€™d love to know everything you know now.

Yesā€¦ itā€™s really that simple!

And yes, itā€™s one of the best ways to promote yourself and what you know to your audience.

This Weekā€™s Action Steps šŸ¾

Annnndddā€¦ there you have it!

5 different ways you can promote yourself to your audience and get people to know about your offer.

Here are your action steps for this week:

  1. Create a long-form piece of content solving one problem your ideal customer has.

  2. Find their contact information (email, social handle, etc.) and send it to them.

  3. Find a question somewhere on the internet asking about something you have knowledge in, then write a response.

As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need any help :)
